We stayed at the Jasper Park Lodge as part of a week long vacation to the Canadian Rockies! My husband and I have slightly differing opinions on this resort, based on different personal tastes...
I'll try to summarize each of our likes/dislikes:
HUSBAND's:
*liked the isolated atmosphere, peace & quiet
*loved the views
*loved the rustic look and feel of the property
*golf course closed the day before we arrived... too bad!!
*disliked "no internet" available in our particular cabin, even though the hotel advertises internet available in all rooms
*disliked the pricing in the restaurants
*disliked the lack of service at time of checkout...
MINE:
*loved the lake views & peacefulness of this resort
*overall, the service was very good from the staff we encountered
*appreciated the free coffee/tea in the rooms
*housekeeping did a very good job...never an issue
*was disappointed that there wasn't internet in our room... I am a junkie, what can I say... on the bright side, free internet was available in the business centre, 24 hours/day... this was helpful.
*the spa did not impress, we actually booked a couples massage at the Mountain Day Spa in town (Jasper) instead
*disliked the "older decor" style... I prefer a little more modern of a look when thinking of a 5 star resort
*felt the price for food/drink was steep... $4.20 with a tip expected for a regular size hot chocolate TO GO! I felt obligated to leave a $5 bill for the gentleman who pressed the button from the hockey arena style hot chocolate machine... :(
*disliked the spread out design of the property
*food was excellent in the restaurants, but $26 each for (buffet) breakfast, plus tip seemed a bit much considering I max out at 1 plate and a bit of fruit.
There are a lot of great things to see on the way up to Jasper, but once you're there, its very isolated, and not much to do.... We enjoyed a dinner @ L&W Family Restaurant, and another dinner at the Jasper Pizza Place... both were "okay" in my opinion... We visited "Hinton" and I was happy to grab a Tim Horton's coffee!!! It was worth the 45 minute drive!!!!! (we visited friends in Hinton for dinner... it wasn't just a Timmie's run...)
The Jasper Park Lodge is full of history & heritage... Likely, my opinion of this place would have been slightly higher if the weather had been slightly more comfortable... there was a lot of rain & gloomy weather, and -6 C temperatures... a summer vacation might have impressed me a little more as it was too cold to enjoy the Muskoka chairs by the lake this time!!
Happy Trails to all :)
feel free to message me with any questions, happy to help.
