With interactive, hands on exhibits on Southwestern culture and the arts, you must visit The Heard Museum for at least and hour or two. My family just got back from Scottsdale and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would rank this museum up there with Chicago's Field Museum and Museum of Natural History. Highly recommend! more

After all the glowing reviews, here we were disappointed in the Heard. Perhaps we have been spoiled by the Washington DC Smithsonian's Indian museum which handles huge crowds with aplomb in its Native American cuisine cafeteria. The Heard Museum is housed in a lovely Southwestern style building surrounding an open courtyard. Their main focus is the art and culture of the native people of the area. My GF came in from San Diego and wanted to see this museum since she had studied Indian Culture in college. It was really fascinating and I learned a lot. I just needed to kill some time in Phoenix. I turned to my AAA book for recommendations and it was rated highly. The museum is kept immacutely...that was my first impression. There are free tours which last about 45-60 minutes, and our guide was very thorough. It was time and money well spent. more
